George Mears-Vice President Land

George Mears has the oil and gas industry in his bloodlines.  He is the third generation of his family to make a career in the business, his grandfather having co-founded the Justiss-Mears Oil Company in 1946. George worked as a roughneck and roustabout for Justiss-Mears during summers while in college.

George traded the rig floor for the land office after college. Hunt Energy Corporation had him working in North Dakota, Montana, Texas, and Louisiana. While at Hunt, George served as District Landman for the Gulf Coast and then the Michigan Basin.  He continued working extensively in the Michigan Basin before returning to Louisiana as an Independent Landman prior to joining O'Brien Energy Company in 2004.

His extensive experience and expertise in all phases of Petroleum Land work led to his promotion to Vice-President of O'Brien's Land Department in 2012.

George Mears holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin.  He is a past Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Michigan Association of Petroleum Landman, a past Regional Director of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, and is a member of the Ark-La-Tex Association of Petroleum Landmen.
